Photography from a Stand-Up Paddleboard and Kayak offers unique challenges but tremendous rewards for capturing amazing views of the world around us.

About the Photographer/Tour Guide: Miriam Sutton began leading kayak tours in 1996 as a side-job to her full-time position as a middle school science teacher. A few years later she began packing her camera gear onboard to capture the unique views she observed from the seat of her kayak. She transferred her tour guiding and on-water photography skills to a Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) in 2012. In addition to her photography, Miriam began posting live feeds and underwater videos through her Science by the Sea social media platform in an effort to encourage students, educators, and general audiences to learn more about the world around them. Miriam also serves on the Rachel Carson Estuarine Research Reserve’s Advisory Board and paddles hundreds of hours annually monitoring the Reserve’s ecosystem and residents.
